Barry Wayne Richard, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on December 17, 1946, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Barry lived a life full of passion, commitment, and love for his family and community. 

Growing up in Creole and later relocating to Lacassine after Hurricane Rita, Barry graduated from South Cameron High School in 1964, and continued his education earning his Master's Degree in education from McNeese State University. He devoted his life to education, beginning his teaching career at South Cameron Elementary in 1969. Eight years later, he stepped into the role of principal, serving with dedication until his retirement in 2005. His unwavering commitment to his students and their growth left an indelible mark on the community he cherished. 

Outside of his professional life, Barry was a talented musician, known for his role as the lead guitarist for the band, The Tear Drops. He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, finding joy in hunting, fishing, and gardening. His love for cooking was evident to all who knew him; his home was a welcoming place where everyone was invited to share a meal and make memories. 

Barry is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Carolyn Richard; daughters Goldie Landry (Mitch) and Missy LeBoeuf (Richard); grandchildren Garrett Richard (Jaclyn), Abby Herpin (Jade), Hayden Landry (Ashley), and Haley Landry; and great-grandchildren Drake Hicks, Mia Richard, Demi Lee Richard, and Hayes Landry. He is also survived by his loving brothers, Roger Richard (Molly), Lester "Ferpo" Richard (Lidian), and Bryon "Goose" Richard (Carla). 

Funeral services for Barry will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Iowa on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM, burial will follow in Sweetlake - Grand Lake Cemetery. A visitation will take place on Thursday, February 25, 2026, beginning at 5:00 PM, with a Rosary recited at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. 

Barry Wayne Richard will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, dedication, and joyful spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. In honoring his life, let us carry forward the warmth and generosity he so freely shared with the world. 

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Richard and Beatrice Rogers Richard; his sisters, Jackie Johnson, and Karen "Cookie" Richard; his father-in-law, Earnest Richard and his mother-in-law, Evyone Richard; brother-in-law, Loston McEvers.
