Ben Fontenot, 50, of Lake Charles, passed away on July 1, 2026, with his loving family by his side.
Ben was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and spending time at the camp. Whether he was in a deer stand, around a crawfish boiler, or cooking wild game for family and friends, he was happiest outdoors. He enjoyed any opportunity to cook outside, and those gatherings were some of his favorite times.
Ben had a great sense of humor and could always find something to laugh about, no matter the situation. He loved making people smile and had a way of bringing laughter wherever he went.
He was a heavy equipment diesel mechanic who specialized in cranes. Ben took great pride in his work and enjoyed the challenge of diagnosing and repairing difficult problems. He was known for his knowledge, strong work ethic, and willingness to mentor younger mechanics, teaching them not only how to repair equipment but how to think through a problem until they found the solution.
In the summer of 1993, Ben met the love of his life, Amy, after her cousin introduced the two on a blind date. They were married and shared 31 wonderful years together, building a life centered on family, love, and countless memories.
Above all else, Ben loved his family. He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren and his faithful dog, Ruger, who was never far from his side.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 31 years, Amy Fontenot; his father, Roger Paul Fontenot and wife Susan; his mother, Sherry Oge and husband Jimmy; his children, Alex Boudoin and husband Alex, B.J. Robertson and husband Bryce, and Koleman Fontenot; his grandchildren, Alydia Robertson, Heath Boudoin, and Kayce Robertson; and his siblings, Gary Paul Fontenot and wife Norma, Kathy Chautin and husband Scott, and Melissa Manuel and husband Chris; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by all of his grandparents.
A funeral service for Ben will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Monday and continue until the start of the service. A private Burial of Ben's urn will take place later.
