Bertha Jean Barrow

Bertha Jean Barrow, 81, passed away on September 4, 2026. She was born December 21, 1944, in Westlake, Louisiana, to Sylvan and Jewell Hennigan.

On February 10, 1961, at just 16 years old, Bertha married the love of her life, Lloyd Thomas Barrow. Together they began a family and later moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where they made their home and raised their seven children.

Some of her children’s fondest memories are found in the simple, everyday moments of growing up with Mama, the anticipation of waiting for her chili to cool enough to eat, enjoying her pepper steak, family fishing trips, camping together, and all the little moments in between that became treasured childhood memories.

Bertha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lloyd Thomas Barrow; her grandson, Joel Barrow; her great-grandsons, August Lee and Valentine Lee; her parents, Sylvan and Jewell Hennigan; and her siblings, Cecil Hennigan, Sybil Taylor, Sydney Hennigan, Jeanette Williams, Albert Hennigan, Ruth Harper, and Jimmy Hennigan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her seven children, Lloyd Thomas Barrow Jr. of Eunice, Louisiana; Tammy Lee and husband Ray of Maurice, Louisiana; Tina Labuff of Pineville, Louisiana; Troy Barrow and wife Angela of Lake Charles, Louisiana; John Barrow and wife Sherri of Sulphur, Louisiana; Sandra Fournerat and husband Mike of Longville, Louisiana; and Heather Matthews and husband Scott of Lacassine, Louisiana.

She is also survived by her beloved sister, Maxine Wilkins, with whom she shared a very special bond; her grandchildren, Justin, Mandy, Megan, Joshua, Chelsea, Lyle, Matthew, Lakin, Katie, John John, Sarah, Stephanie, Michael, Kaylee, Courtney, and Kylie; and her 27 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by Todd Huber, who was like a son to her, and his wife, Vickie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Bertha’s greatest legacy is the family she leaves behind and the memories they share. Her life will continue to be remembered through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who loved her.

Her funeral will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2026 in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 Noon until the start of the service.
