Beverly “Bev” Ruth Stewart Gilchrist, 74, of Lake Charles passed away at 6:09 PM on Monday, September 14, 2026 in a local hospital.
Born on February 23, 1952, in Lake Charles, she was raised in LeBleu Settlement and was a proud graduate of Iowa High School. In the early 1970s, she moved to the Lake Charles/Sulphur area.
She began her career with BFI Waste Services and went on to dedicate 47 years to Waste Management, serving as a public sector representative. Through her many years of service, she built lasting relationships and was respected for her dedication and commitment to her work.
Outside of her career, she enjoyed reading and cherished the time she spent with her family. One of her greatest joys was bringing her loved ones together around the table. Every Sunday, she prepared lunch for her family to enjoy—a tradition that reflected the love and care she poured into those closest to her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shelly Gilchrist; grandchildren, Collin Henning (Ashley) and Brittnie Henning; great grandchildren; Conner, Ethan, and Eleanor “Ellie” Henning; and a brother, Andrew “A.J.” Stewart, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Levise and Andrew Stewart, Sr.; sister, Charlotte Long; and a brother, Randall Stewart.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a memorial service to take place at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel in Lake Charles. The Rev. Steve Shirley will officiate.
