Lake Charles – Bessie Mae Woolridge Vital, born January 21, 1942, daughter of the late William and Leanna Tatman Woolridge, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2019, at the age of 77.
Bessie was a member of New Sunlight Baptist Church and worked for Rosewood Nursing Home for over 20 years. She enjoyed working in her garden, crossword puzzles, cooking, baking, watching Golden Girls, listening to gospel music and loved being a foster grandparent to the children of Brentwood Elementary.
Bessie is survived by her daughters, Jocqueline “Renay” Jones; Janice Guillory (Willman, Jr.); son, Jonathan Vital (Michelle); brothers, Charlie Woolridge (Deborah); Leroy Woolridge (Sylvia); Willis Woolridge (Starlet); sisters, Lela Mae Thomas (Linton); Earlean Holland (Elijah); 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Wayne Vital; daughter, Paula August; son, Jarret Vital; brothers, Lehman, Arthur, Osmay Woolridge and her beloved dog, Baby.
Funeral services are Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 2 p.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Rev. Cornelius Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in Lorrain DeRouen Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, September 27, 2019 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., and will resume Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
