Betty Ann Harris Trahan, 81 of Lake Charles, LA was called Home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, April21, 2021.
Betty was one of five children born to Ernest and MaeHarris. She was born in Timpson, Texas on June 28, 1939. She attended Alvin High School, where she played clarinet in the school band.
It was a friendship with her neighbor --and future sister-in-law-- Arlene Hill that would lead Betty to the gentleman she would marry, and on December 22, 1969 she and Henry exchanged vows.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her family (and extended “Wardell” children), instilling in them the importance of Christian faith and family. She was employed as a medical transcriptionist and office manager until retirement. Nothing brought her more joy than to spend time with her family and share the Word of God with others. She enjoyed the fun that life brought her, including the opportunity to model in a fashion show hosted by her employer in the mid-1960’s. Henry’s job brought them to Southwest Louisiana and together they embraced and continuedTrahan family Cajun traditions. Surrounded by many family members, they often gathered for crab, crawfish, and shrimp boils. Betty never turned down a good game of Scrabble or dominoes to any whom dare challenge her. Her heritage was important to her, so she spent time with family elders, tracing her Cooper, as well as Trahan, family lineage. Because of that, she always remembered birthdays and anniversaries. She also was an excellent seamstress and took great pride in creating a lifetime of clothes for Debbie and a beautiful wedding dress worn by two nieces, Becky and Kat. She also created a family heirloom quilt – a family “tree” for Henry’s parents,Louis & Alicia Trahan. Betty also enjoyed travel and,at the age of 65, learned Japanese before travelling to Japan to visit her sister-in-law Haruko and niece Debbie Leiko. She also provided a family Hawaiian cruise with her to visit Regie.
She was welcomed into Heaven by her husband, Henry Trahan; a son, Michael Boyd; her parents; and two brothers, Jerry Harris and Terry Harris.
Those left to cherish her memory and try to beat her Scrabble score; her children, Debbie & James Hooker, Patrick & Rebecca Trahan, and Jerry Boyd; two brothers, Regie Harris and Loye Gau; her grandchildren, Tristan Boyd, Andrea Boyd, Gary Hooker, Jamie Hooker, Ethan Trahan and ReeceTrahan.
The family will welcome friends at Lake City Baptist Church on Saturday, April 24, 2021 beginning at 12pm until her time of service. A funeral service led by her beloved children will begin at 2pm, with burial to follow at Consolata Cemetery.
Pallbearers to honor Betty’s life will be her children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to their mother’s favorite charity, Partners in Caring, an organization which sends monthlyhomemade treats and gifts to shut-ins and nursing home patients. Betty loved her monthly packages and stated many times how she would want that tradition to continue for others. Please leave a donation in the envelopes at the guest book or via PayPal to pauljett@juno.com.
