Betty Bacon

November 3, 1930 — June 6, 2025

Betty Jane Trahan Bacon, 94, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving children.

Born on November 3, 1930, in Thornwell, Louisiana, to Duplance and Odette Newman Trahan, Betty was one of twelve siblings. From an early age, she embodied the true meaning of compassion and selflessness, serving as a caregiver not only to her family but to countless others throughout her life.

Betty was a woman overflowing with love. Her warmth and strength became the foundation of her family. A gifted seamstress, she clothed her children entirely with her own hands. Whether it was suits, dresses, or even swimsuits, she created it all with her skills. Her talents didn't stop at sewing-Betty was also a very good crocheter. From rugs to blankets and bedspreads, Betty made it all.

Betty also knew her way around the kitchen, especially with her signature rice and gravy. Her meals were legendary. One of the most memorable stories was the time she hosted Bible college students, and one student scraped the bottom of his paper bowl so hard for every last bite, he tore through the bowl.

More than her talents, Betty was a woman of unwavering faith. She and her husband, Joseph, were long-time, devoted members of South City Christian Church, where they raised their children in love and service to the Lord. Betty lived out her faith by caring for church members in need, providing meals, and being present whenever someone called upon her.

Her legacy of faith is reflected in her children. Dangela, Robby, and Todd all attended Ozark Bible College in Missouri. Dangela spent three years as a missionary in Puerto Rico. Todd is a pastor in Dallas, Texas, with a ministry background that includes time overseas in Taiwan and Hong Kong, and work with a school for the deaf. Robby served as pastor of their childhood church for 30 years and spent over two decades doing missionary work in the Cayman Islands and St. Vincent in the Caribbean. Dale was born with a speech impediment overcame his difficulties and became a speech pathologist. He was a wonderful giver of his time, talents and his finances to those who needed it. Though Dale never went overseas he was served and made his community his mission field. Her children are a reflection of her faith in Christ and her desire to live out the love that Christ pours into us. A true testament of her heart and devotion to all of those around her.

Betty is survived by her brother, Charles Trahan; her children, Dangela Barnes (John), Robby Bacon (Sharon), and Todd Bacon; grandchildren Nicole Fairbanks (Bruce), Jeremy Bacon, Caitlin Welti (David), and Tracy Warwick (Francis); great-grandchildren Heather, James, and Robert Fairbanks, Jillian, Zane, and Gabriel Bacon, and Roslyn Nolan, Betty Jeaux, and Evangeline Welti.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Joseph Bacon; her son Dale Bacon; her parents, Duplance and Odette Trahan; and ten of her eleven siblings.
