Betty Ann Fontenot Dowden

Betty Ann Dowden, 85, of Lake Charles passed away at 6:47 PM on Thursday, September 25, 2025 in a local care facility.

Mrs. Dowden was born on November 15, 1939, in Crowley, Louisiana, where she was raised before later making her home in Lake Charles. She attended Marion High School.

Mrs. Dowden loved to travel and proudly toured much of the United States. She especially enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and spending time at the casinos. Mrs. Dowden was known for her honesty and ability to always speak her mind, which made her unforgettable to everyone who met her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Colleen Rials (Ray Lynn), Kathy Felice (Mark Dartez), Byron Dowden (Kelly), Jeff Dowden (Michelle), Christine Gill (Derek), and Ellie Dowden; brother, Jerry Fontenot; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, Derwin Dowden; parents, Odelia and Austin Fontenot; seven siblings; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. The Rev. Steve Shirley will officiate. Visitation will begin in the funeral home from 12:00 PM until leaving for the cemetery at 1:00 PM.
