Betty Gaspard

July 2, 1932 — November 8, 2025

Lake Charles, Louisiana

Betty Lou Gaspard entered eternal rest in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and cherished friends, she passed peacefully in Lake Charles, Louisiana, as prayers and songs of gratitude filled the room.

Born and raised in Lake Charles, Betty Lou was a 1951 graduate of Lake Charles High School, where she proudly served as a majorette. She later attended McNeese State University. Betty Lou was a woman of grace, humor, and heart, a gifted writer who enjoyed composing poetry and music, and whose home was always open to family and friends. Her quick wit, radiant smile, and sparkling blue eyes brought joy to all who knew her.

Her faith guided every chapter of her life. A devoted member of the Lake Charles Bible Church, she taught both Bible School and Sunday School for many years, sharing her love of Scripture with children and adults alike. Betty Lou’s sense of service extended beyond the church to her community. She was a charter member of the Cajun French Music Association, serving on its board for two years, and was deeply involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2130, where she served as Auxiliary President from 1989 to 1990 and later became a life member of the VFW National Home for Children. She also gave her time to CCOA, AARP, the American Red Cross, and the American Legion Post 1.

For more than 25 years, Betty Lou worked alongside Dr. Conway Magee as an office manager, medical secretary, and assistant. Her compassion, dedication, and professionalism touched countless patients and colleagues over the years.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Scott Graham Gaspard and wife Sally; and her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, J.C. Gaspard; her son, Barry Franklin Gaspard; her daughter, Jacquetta Zerangue; her parents, Yola Graham Duckworth and John Franklin Graham; and her brother, Robert F. Graham.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, 4321 Lake Street, with burial to follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 11, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and will resume on Wednesday at 9:00 AM until the service begins.

Please consider making a memorial donation to Camp Pearl, P.O. Box 10, Reeves, LA 70657.

Betty Lou lived her life with faith, family, and courage, and now rests in the everlasting peace she so deeply believed in.
