Betty Joyce Firmature Romero

Betty Joyce Firmature Romero, 84, of Lake Charles died on Saturday, November 5, 2016 in a local care facility.

Mrs. Romero was born on June 3, 1932 in Lake Charles where she resided all of her life and attended LaGrange High School.  She was a member of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church.  In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband.  Mrs. Romero cherished her family and was a dedicated mother and grandmother.  She will be remembered for her caring and giving spirit as well as the smile she always wore.

Those left to cherish her memory are four children, Edward Romero (Karen) of Colchester, CT, Rosella “Rosie” Hawkins (Herman) of Katy, TX, Glenda Romero of LaGrange, KY, and Jeanette Shotwell of Lake Charles; two sisters, Marie Lane of Bay City, TX and Loretta Leger (Glenn) of Opelousas; eight grandchildren, Chad Romero, Christopher Shotwell, Dusty Shotwell, Jessica Gloria, Shelia White, Donna Nunez, Sarah Nixon, and Katherine “Kathy” Kukla; eighteen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence Romero; second husband, Richard Firmature; parents, Eva and Cornelius Steen; son, Lester Romero; two brothers, Herman and Wayne Steen; and a sister, Juanita Prosser.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  The Rev. Kelly Vigo and Rev. Dave Lang will officiate.  Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation will begin on Monday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will resume on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
