Betty June Lee Wolfe, 85, of Lake Charles passed away on Friday, June 02, 2017 in her residence.
Mrs. Wolfe was born on March 16, 1932 in Washington, KY. She was a graduate of Rantoul High School in Illinois where she was a member of the quartet and had the privilege to sing in the All State Chorus. Mrs. Wolfe received her physical education degree in 1954 from Centenary College in Shreveport where she also belonged to the choir. She furthered her education at Baylor Medical School of Physical Therapy in Dallas. Upon graduating, she spent three years working for Baylor before moving to Lake Charles in 1958 where she opened the first Physical Therapy Department at Christus St. Patrick Hospital. In 1970 she became the first physical therapist at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. Mrs. Wolfe retired in 1992.
She was a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Louisiana Physical Therapy Association, and was a former member of the American Burn Association. Mrs. Wolfe also belonged to the Louisiana Choral Foundation. She was a longtime member of University United Methodist Church since 1958 and sang in the church choir.
Those left to cherish her memory are a son, George “Bill” Wolfe, Jr. (Sue) of Manassas, VA; a daughter, Kathy June O’Neill of Lake Charles; four grandsons, Daran W. “DJ” O’Neill, Jr., Jesse Todd O’Neill (Lauren), Will Wolfe, and Jamie Wolfe; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Wolfe, Sr.; two brothers, Douglas Lee and Richard English Lee; and her parents, Elva and Rev. Oakley Lee.
A funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Katie Simpson will officiate. Cremation will follow services. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM noon and will continue until the start of the service.
