Bettye Sue Pruitt Wilfer, 75, of Sulphur passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025 in the comfort of her home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Wilfer was born on October 31, 1950 in Edgerly, LA to Lawrence Pruitt and Fern Lee Peters Pruitt. She was a graduate of Vinton High School and has lived most of her life in Vinton. The past twenty years have been with her daughter in Sulphur. Mrs. Wilfer was well known throughout the communities as she worked nearly thirty years in banking throughout Calcasieu Parish. She loved to bake and decorate. Every season and holiday was a celebration with festive decorations, Christmas being her favorite, elaborately decorated with the sound of Christmas music included! She will also be remembered by countless family members and friends for her Christmas Divinity and Oatmeal cookies. She had a joyful spirit, always well dressed and put together. Her greatest joy was her family and, most importantly, spending time with and caring for her great grandchildren. A lady of faith and prayer, Mrs. Wilfer attended St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Kerri Ann Hebert (David) of Sulphur, James Ray Wilfer (Misty) of Vinton and Ricky Dale Wilfer (Kelly) of Vinton; six grandchildren, Kara McElligott (Max) of Sulphur, Kaitlyn Hebert (Trey Ferguson) of Lake Charles, Rebecca Wilfer Jones (Roy) of Vinton, Dustin Jaye Wilfer of Vinton, Chase Lee Wilfer of Silt, CO and Dawna Lee Ashworth (Grayson) of Carlyss; six great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Charlotte McElligott, Avalyn Wilfer, Rylan and Raylan Jones and Adalida Lee Ashworth; three step great-grandchildren, Jordon, Karter and Layla Jones and sister, Bridgett Johnson (David) of Sulphur. She also leaves two additional sisters and one brother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty years, Donald Wilfer; one sister, Barbara Barrentine; one brother, Barry Pruitt and her parents, Lawrence and Fern Pruitt.
In respect of her wishes, Mrs. Wilfers family gathered for a private Graveside service at Wilfer Family Cemetery in Ged, LA.
