Beverly Steffens Waggoner

Beverly Sue Steffens Waggoner, 69, of Lake Charles passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 in the comfort of her home.    Mrs. Waggoner was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles.  She was a graduate of LaGrange High School and McNeese State University where she obtained a Bachelor Degree, Masters Degree and a Masters +30 in Education.  She worked nearly forty years as a Special Education Teacher.  She also worked at the Calcasieu Career Center as a Facilitator and as a volunteer for the Child Advocacy Service.    Mrs. Waggoner enjoyed singing with the school and church choir and was an accomplished competition pianist.  She was always an avid reader and loved watching movies and cooking.  She took great pride in being the #1 fan of her children and grandchildren, following through the years, countless school functions, sporting events and dance recitals.  Mrs. Waggoner will be most remembered for her intelligence, wisdom and kind loving heart.    She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Laura Beth King Cross and husband Steve of Sulphur; one son, Jess Benjamin King and wife Arianne of Salt Lake City, UT; one step daughter, Regina Waggoner of Los Angeles, CA; one step son, Wesley Waggoner of Los Angeles, CA; three grandchildren, Cody, Savannah and Cooper Cross, all of Sulphur; one brother, Mark Steffens and wife Sandy of Lake Charles and two nieces.  She also leaves her caregivers and dear friends, Mary Fontenot, Odelia Guillory and Ann Thibodeaux.    She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger H. Steffens and Maude Cooper Jobe and husband, Ronald Thomas Waggoner.    Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.  Reverend Alvin Smith will officiate.   Interment will follow in Dry Creek Cemetery.  Visitation Tuesday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
