Billie Maxine Duncan

June 2, 1926 — November 30, 2016

Billie Maxine Duncan, 90, was born in Healdton, Oklahoma to Joe and Pearl Allgood. She graduated from Fox High School in Oklahoma in 1944. After graduating from high school she went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Duncan, Oklahoma. She married Walter H. Duncan on September 27, 1949 in Gainesville, Texas. They lived in Wilson, Oklahoma where their two daughters, Karen and Barbara, were born. Walter worked for Signal Oil & Gas Company and in December 1959 Signal transferred them to Lake Charles. Billie worked as a homemaker for several years and eventually went to work for Muller’s Department Store. She retired as Credit Manager from Muller’s in 1978.

Billie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She totally devoted herself to caring for her family and her husband, Walter. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles since the early 1960’s. She spent many hours reading and studying her Bible and read the Bible to Walter during his later years. Billie and Walter were able to continue living at home until their deaths because of the wonderful care provided to them by Rita Thigpen.

Billie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Walter; her parents, Joe B. and Pearl Allgood; her younger brother, Joe Don Allgood of Anadarko, Oklahoma; her granddaughter, Heather Denise Shaw; and her step-daughter, Delores Buchanan.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen McMenamin and husband Tim, of Porter, Texas, and Barbara Young and husband, Craig, of Moss Bluff; step-daughter, Oleta Madry of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, Jaime Karee Litke, Andrea (Chris) Zolas, Jeremy (Leigh Ann) Shaw, Joshua (Alexa) Young and Julie-Beth (Justin) Meche; as well as nine great grandchildren, Laurelei Litke, Lilliana Litke, Aubrie Shaw, Makaria Litke, Tripp Shaw, Jack Zolas, Adelyn Shaw, Drew Zolas and Caroline Young.

The service celebrating Ms. Duncan’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, December 5, 2016, at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Sunday at 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM and will resume on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

The family would like to extend thanks to Rita Thigpen, Robin Shaw, Dr. Keith Lechtenberg and his Staff, and Kim Henney with Heart of Hospice and staff.
