Billie Prather

May 20, 1934 — March 14, 2026

Billie Prather, 89, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026. Born on May 20, 1936, Billie lived a life full of love, laughter, and creativity, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Billie was a loving and fun Mama who created a joyful and adventurous childhood for her family. She could often be found with a Coca-Cola in hand, loading up her four children-along with nieces, nephews, and neighborhood kids-and heading to Drew Park, where they would spend hours playing and making memories. Her home and heart were always open, and she had a special way of making every child feel welcome and loved.

As her children grew older, Billie began working nights as a telephone operator at Memorial Hospital. Her dedication was unmatched-working through the night while her children slept, yet always present during the day to care for and nurture her family.

Billie had a truly artistic spirit. She had a natural gift for design and decorating, with an eye for turning the ordinary into something beautiful. An avid garage saler, she found treasures where others saw none, filling her home with charm and character. She was also a talented painter, having taken an oil painting class in her younger years that sparked a lifelong passion for art.

She especially loved celebrating holidays, with Halloween being her favorite. Billie enjoyed a good laugh while others were scared by her pranks.

Billie is survived by her four children: Ruth Anne McDaniel and husband Mike, Charlene Abbott and husband Jay, Al Smith and wife Anna, and Neal Smith and wife Jessica; her grandchildren, David McDaniel and wife Jennifer, Will McDaniel and wife Brittany, Elizabeth Houston and husband Matt, Craig Broussard, Andy Broussard, Seth Smith, and Kaylee McManus; and her great-grandchildren, Hunter, Owen, Mitchell, Amelia, Sadie, Leah, Mason, JJ, Maddie, Madden, Micah, and Zachary.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Ezra Prather and Opal Esther Creel; and her siblings, J.E. Prather and Connie Carpenter.

Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.
