Bonita Holland of Hayes, born in Jennings on June 23, 1951, daughter of the late Leroy and Anna Grace (Sonnier) LaCombe, passed away in her residence, surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the age of seventy-two.
A graduate of Sowela, Bonita worked as a payroll accountant, and later worked as a school bus driver for Calcasieu Parish School Board.
She served as Commissioner in Charge of Elections in Hayes, Holmwood, and Bell City and was secretary & treasurer for the Hayes Cemetery. She was a member of the Amicus Club, where once a month, she would gather with friends to enjoy a nice meal out and plan the next outing.
She was a faithful member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bell City.
Her hobbies included reading, and of course spoiling her kids and grandkids.
Bonita is survived by her children, Chante` Holland, Tara Holland, and Douglas Holland II; sisters, Louise Elaine Lange, and Sue Ellen Guidry; grandchildren, Kristen Holland, Ava Clark, and Isabelle Holland.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Douglas “Pluto” Holland; brother, Dwight LaCombe, and infant brother, Winfred LaCombe.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 10 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Rev. Roland Vaughn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home and will resume Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.
Special thanks to the Heart of Hospice Team, especially Amber & Heather for taking such wonderful care of our mom. Also, thanks to Bonita’s nieces, Julie & Jesyca for their compassion and strength during this last week.
