On June 22nd, Boyd Allen Nunez, age 96 almost 97, took his last breath and moved on to his heavenly place. As one of his friends once said, Boyd has spent his whole life preparing for his heavenly home! And he was so right! When the church doors were open, Boyd was there! He enjoyed learning about heaven and the material things on earth that do not matter.
He married his sweetheart, LouEtta Doxey, the youngest of the Doxey clan! Together they raised a family of three! Dinah Landry (Toby) the oldest in the crew who always spoke her mind and loved her animals, Randy Nunez (Lorrie) who worked for Ford and designed auto parts as well as computers, Kim Nunez (Brandi) who was a career deputy for Cameron Parish Sheriff Department and enjoyed working out and hunting. The light of his life were his grandchildren, Jason and Mallory Nunez and Tabitha and Scott Nunez! He thought there was nothing better than grandchildren, until the great grandchildren arrived! First came his "adopted grandchildren", Gabby, Wren, Michael and Phillip along with their parents Amy and Paul Gay. He enjoyed many cook outs, Easter egg hunts and Christmas celebrations with these guys! Then Aubrey and Lexi were born and joined in the fun. Matthew arrived as the only boy in this family followed by his sister Ruth and together with their parents Tabitha and Bradley Lambert, "Paw Paw" had a houseful to enjoy. Scott and his son Ky, added to the holiday excitement. Meanwhile he and Louetta would travel across the USA to spend time with Jason and Mallory in Michigan. During the summer months he would introduce them to the Cameron beaches and have cookouts!
Boyd served as the Boat Master for the Cameron Ferries after spending many years in the Gulf on Crew Boats. He loved the water and enjoyed fishing, shrimping and boating. The Creole canal was right in his front yard. Once he had a pet alligator that came up each evening to have lunch on the fish Boyd caught for him! Then a pelican moved in and started enjoying the free fish, too! He never missed feeding them and they waited patiently for his arrival each evening.
Boyd was a nature lover and took pride in the variety of trees on his property. He trimmed then and made sure they were healthy. He enjoyed the outdoors whether it was hunting or fishing or mowing the grass or bushhogging. He was truly an outdoor man.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ova and Bernice Nunez, his sister Wilma Carriveaux and brother in law Bob, and his brother James Nunez and wife JoAnn Nunez. He had many friends, special friends Leland Crochet, Amos Vincent, Don Billiot, Dave Griffith and George Kelley were a few that left the earth too soon. Special friends and relatives he leaves behind are Jimmy Kelley, Terry Kelley, Davey Doxey, J.A. Miller, Ron Johnson and Leslie Griffith. These gentlemen will serve as pall bearers. Special thanks to his niece and nephew J.A. and Ruby Miller, for the visits and their special presence in his life.
Thanks to the kind, compassionate doctors and nurses at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Thanks to the staff of the Cameron Council on Aging for becoming a second family to him!
