Bruce Thatcher Mcclure

Bruce Thatcher McClure, 74, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, January 8, 2016 in his home.

Mr. McClure was born in Plainview, TX, raised in Amarillo, TX, and has lived the past forty-five years in Lake Charles. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was a graduate of Texas Tech where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. Mr. McClure retired with many years at Olin Petrochem and Westlake Polymers. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working as a truck driver. He also furthered his education with an Associate Degree in Information Technology and then began his working for the Calcasieu Parish Library System, from which he also later retired. He was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed camping, hiking and canoeing, and also, computer, wood working and his Olin friends' group gatherings. He was a devoted family man, his favorite times were shared with his wife, sons and granddaughter. Mr. McClure was a member of St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church and volunteered with the Manna Ministries.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of forty-nine years, Carol Minor McClure of Lake Charles; two sons, Steven Minor McClure and wife Isabel of Redmond, WA, and Scott Michael McClure and wife Ruth of Baton Rouge; one granddaughter, Abby McClure; and two sisters, Gayle Debusk of Houston, TX and Laurel Beth Currie of New Braunfels, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. and Dorothy Thatcher McClure and son, Douglas Andrew McClure.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 13, 2016 in Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA. Reverends Charlie Langford and Thomas Williams will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and will continue Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
