Burley M. Fontenot

Iowa – Burley M. Fontenot, a devoted husband, dad and grandfather, born in Oberlin on December 22, 1939, son of the late Lezime and Mary (Doget) Fontenot, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 in Lake Charles Memorial, at the age of 78.

Burley was a jack of all trades, especially carpenter work. In his younger years, he tirelessly coached baseball for Little League with his 2 boys and all members of the Bronco’s team. He loved Cajun music, his accordion and dancing. He enjoyed helping put on functions for the Cajun French Music Association.

Burley is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Annie L. Fontenot; 2 sons, Burley J. Fontenot (Debbie), Clint J. Fontenot (Angie); 2 daughters, Bonita Leger and Rodania Bellard; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Andrew Fontenot.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clayton and Clifton Fontenot; sisters, Clarice Fontenot and Emma Grace Manuel and host of half-brothers & sisters.

Funeral services are Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa with Father Bennie Wego officiating. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday in the funeral home from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., with a cursillo rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation resumes Wednesday from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.

The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff at LCMH; Dr. Michael Seep and staff for their years of service to their dad and mom. Also, Drs. Kevin Young, Ben Thompson and Home Health for the excellent care they provided.
