Burnell James “Tinker” Nunez, Jr., 71, of Longville, LA, went to be with his Lord at 2:06 AM on Thursday, June 25, 2020 in his residence.
Mr. Nunez was born May 2, 1949 in Lake Charles, LA, raised in Cameron Parish and just moved to Longville, LA a few years ago. He attended South Cameron High School, where he held the title as the first State Champion in wrestling. Mr. Nunez, during his younger years, held the title of the youngest crew boat captain in the Gulf of Mexico. He worked as a truck driver for many years, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed coaching softball and following his daughter and niece during their softball endeavors. He also enjoyed Westerns, riding horses, working on the farm with his son and nephew Tremayne, trapping alligators, playing the guitar, and playing jokes on people. He also loved his Community Coffee, his wife’s cooking, his niece, Nickie’s potato salad, and loved being married into the Cajun culture. Mr. Nunez had a love for Jesus, a heart of gold, and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Mr. Nunez is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Donna Nunez; son, Burnell Shawn Nunez (Amy); daughter, Sarah Sonnier (Michael Sonnier, II); mother, Eddie L. “Te” Nunez; brothers, Ronald Gayle Nunez, Sr. and Anthony Nunez (Jean); grandchildren, J’Nae, Kelan, Breydon, Mykilee, Diego, Dominque, Drevon, Will, D.J., Peyton, and Christopher; great-grandchild, Brandon Luke; and his nieces and nephews that he loved like his own children, Nickie and Beau Duhon and Annaston and Alaina Picou.
He was preceded in death by his father, Burnell James Nunez, Sr.; and sister, Janice Foret.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Sheriff Ron Johnson will lead the service. Burial will follow in Sweetlake – Grand Lake Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
