Calvin Joseph Fontenot

October 29, 1938 — February 20, 2024

Calvin Joseph Fontenot, 85, of Sulphur, LA passed away on February 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in a local hospital. He is now at peace with our Lord and the love of his life, Betty.
Calvin was born on October 29, 1938, to Russell and Hilda Fontenot in Welsh, LA. and raised by his mother, Hilda and stepfather, Martin Vidrine of Sulphur. Calvin was a cradle catholic and was very proud to be an alter server as a young boy. He loved the outdoors fishing, gardening, and flowers. Calvin also loved being around his family and taking care of everyone. He had a great appreciation for carpentry and his very strong work ethic from his childhood that served him and his family. Calvin was a welder and pipefitter at W.R. Grace and company for 32 years. He also served his country in the United States Army and was proud of that humble accomplishment. The memories of crawfishing on the weekends, his children treasured as much as he did. Also, traveling to Branson and Las Vegas was a memory they all loved!
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Edward James Frazer and wife Debra, Timothy Martin Fontenot, and Elizabeth Kay Fontenot; 4 grandchildren, Calvin Jay Jarrell, Heather Annette Sonnier, Jennifer Leann Nall, and Timothy Jor-el Fontenot; great grandchildren, Dustin, Taylor, Shase, Ty, Atley, and Skyler; and one sister, Barbara and Silton Bergeron.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Fontenot; daughter, Lucy Jane Moore; and daughter in law, Machelle Fontenot.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, February 26, 2024, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 6:00 PM Cursillo Rosary on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Visitation will resume from 10:00 AM until the time of service Monday at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mimosa Pines South under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home.
We thank Cal- Cam Hospital for their compassionate care and we also wish to thank Canon Moreau for his kindness and for administering Calvin’s last rites.
His entire family is grateful to Kay, his daughter, for her gentle, loving care she gave to her father and mother.
