It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wilson Carl Ardoin, age 85, who left this world on April 24, 2025. Carl was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.
He was born on July 30, 1939 in Mamou, Louisiana to Sidney and Elda Fontenot Ardoin.
Carl dedicated 30 years of his life to working at Citgo, where he eventually retired in 1999. He was a hardworking and dedicated employee.
One of Carl’s greatest joys in life was traveling with his wife, creating countless memories together. One of his favorite moments was being in an audience with Pope Benedict, an experience that brought him great joy and fulfillment.
Carl was a passionate fan of LSU sports, particularly baseball. He had the opportunity to witness the Tigers win two national championships in Omaha, a memory that he cherished dearly. On that same note, he took great pleasure in hating every referee and umpire he ever watched and proudly proclaimed the next one up to be worse than the one before!
In his younger years, Carl was a member of the Mamou High School State Championship boxing team in 1955. He also proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960, spending 30 months in Germany.
He was predeceased by his parents and 3 sisters Joyce Devall, Shelva Ardoin, and Gloria Gossett.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Sylvia Klein Ardoin and three children: Joey (Laurie) Ardoin, Greg (Tabby) Ardoin, and Kim (Keith) Matherne; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Blake, Matthew, Riley, Zachary, Sydney, and Jacob; four great grandchildren, Carlea, Brycen, Harper, and Eli and his four legged feline accomplice, Noel.
Visitation will begin at 8:30 AM at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles and conclude with a Rosary at 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be observed on Monday April 28, 2025 at St. Margaret Catholic Church with Father Nathan Long serving as celebrant. Burial, with military Honors, will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
Carl will be remembered for his kind heart, his unwavering dedication to his family, and his love for life. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family requests Memorial remembrances to be made in his memory to the Catholic Daughters.
