Carroll Joseph Melancon

Carroll Joseph Melancon, 96, passed away peacefully in his Lake Charles home on Saturday, August 15, 2026. He was born on January 12, 1930, in Parks, Louisiana, to Theobald and Ida Thibodeaux Melancon.

Carroll grew up in Parks, near St. Martinville, and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force alongside his twin brother, Harold. During his time in the Air Force, he developed a love for softball that continued well beyond his military service.

Always interested in learning something new, Carroll remained curious throughout his life. He enjoyed investing and was a member of a local investment club. He also took great pride in his home and especially enjoyed working outdoors, where his carefully maintained landscaping reflected the time and attention he devoted to it.

Carroll was an enthusiastic sports fan who enjoyed following LSU football, the New Orleans Saints, and the Houston Astros.

His Catholic faith was an important part of his life. A longtime member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles, Carroll served his parish in a number of ways over the years, including as a member of the choir and as an usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Brian Melancon; his grandchildren, Stephanie Melancon and Brandon Melancon; and his brother, Paul Melancon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theobald and Ida Thibodeaux Melancon; his beloved wife, Rachel; and his son, Dwayne Anthony Melancon.

His funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street, with Msgr. Jace Eskind serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 18, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a rosary recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM and continue until the start of the service.
