Charlene Mabel Bloyd, 69-years-old, passed from this life to her next on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at her home in DeRidder. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in her Lord, and the love and prayers of her family and friends carried her through many crippling years of struggling with autoimmune diseases. She was, and will remain, an inspiration as proof to others that God does indeed bless and equip us for whatever life on Earth may bring. Charlene was born on March 4, 1946 in Lake Charles to Maurice L. and Mabel D. Bethea. She was the youngest of four children and always looked up to her two brothers - William Leon and Bobby Jack - and her sister, Daurice Deane. Known for her ability to engage in frequent conversation, even with total strangers, some may be surprised to learn of her shyness and fear of any kind of public speaking. Even as a child, her smile was contagious along with her entertaining sense of humor. She could tell a great story - complete with lots of hand gestures! Throughout her life she maintained a humble and genuine demeanor that won the hearts and trust of so many, who will continue to be touched by her witness of unconditional love and constant faith. Her gift of joy shown through her smiles, love and laughter and her stories will always be remembered. She met her true love, Ronald (Ron) G. Bloyd in the spring of 1960 while he was stationed at Chennault AFB. They were married the following year on March 30, 1961 in Lake Charles. Married for 54 years, Charlene and Ron raised their daughter, Ronda Charlene, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; and in Lake Charles and DeRidder, Louisiana. With a true servant's heart, Charlene cared for her family and friends by feeding them baked-from-scratch goodies, clothing them with hand made garments, and decorating their homes with her cross-stitch, quilts, painted art and flower arrangements. She believed in and lived daily by the Golden Rule. Remaining behind to honor and cherish her memory is her husband Ronald G. Bloyd; daughter, Ronda C. Motl and her husband Lloyd J. of Austin, Texas; one grandson, Matthew J. Motl of Austin, Texas; one brother, Bobby Jack Bethea and wife Christine of Lake Charles; numerous nieces and nephews (all who love their Aunt Char-Char!); and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice L. and Mabel D. Bethea; her brother, William L. Bethea; and her sister, Daurice D. Gray. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 21, 2015 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Brother Danny Wilson will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Saturday will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue Sunday from 11:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home. Matthew 25:21 ..."Well done, my good and faithful servant"...
