Charles "Chuck" Lindon Bowman of Lafayette, Louisiana, died peacefully in his sleep in the AMG Specialty Hospital in Lafayette on Monday, May 19, 2025. Chuck's health had been in decline for several years, and God finally welcomed him home surrounded by his children and loved ones. Those left to cherish his memory are too numerous to name here, but most especially his son, Craig (Winter) Bowman of Sulphur, La; his daughter, Lauren (Neil) Ponstein of New Orleans, La; his sister, Paula (Bob) Hunter of Sulphur, La; his mother, Yolande Bowman of Sulphur, and his father, Craig Bowman also of Sulphur. Bonus family, Dana (Ray) Taylor, Nick Taylor, Natalie (Tim) Fontenot, Josh Taylor. Grandchildren who adored him: Dava Whitman, Carter Bowman, Emily Bowman, and Cara Bowman; and Henry Ponstein and his great grandchild Sage Arceneaux.. Those who he also viewed as his own children and grandchildren: Stacey (Brian) Guilbeaux; Noah, Macy, Cali, and Jett Guilbeaux; and Andi (Jeremy) LaVergne; Roman, Demi, Gia, and Margot LaVergne. His true joys were his children and grandchildren; they are his world. He taught us all he knew about jewelry-making from design to creation; also, what he knew about soccer, physics, art, invention, construction, philosophy, faith, communication, generosity, and love. We know he will continue to teach us as his spirit is too strong and too connected to us for him not to. It is simply who he is.
Chuck had an entrepreneurial spirit, and he formed various small businesses throughout his teens and twenties. Also during his teen years, he mentored at Louviere Jewelers, our family jewelry shop in Sulphur, Louisiana, under our Uncle James Louviere, where his artistic talent, business acumen, and mechanically-inclined 3D-mind found fertile ground. Then he went on to work at Wismar Jewelry in Texas. Later, he went to work for Stuller Settings in Lafayette, an international jewelry manufacturer. While at Stuller, he founded the Product Design and Development Department, and held positions of Director of Product Design, Business VP of Mountings, and Senior Designer, where he designed many of Stuller's most iconic products, making millions of dollars over time. He was known by other Stuller designers as being supremely generous in the way he mentored their success. In the jewelry realm, he was considered an artistic and business phenomenon. To us, he was the one who always listened, always cared, and always had a wise perspective that added such value to our lives.
If you have a Chuck in your family, an artistic genius, and his or her passionate way of life is at times larger than life, the journey is both scary and beautiful at the same time. You will find that his vast sense of freedom plus your vast love for him will leave you hanging on tight. In the end, we can attest with all our heart that we treasure every part of him as essential to the whole of him. Only our faith soothes the pain of this loss. Through faith, we know absolutely that he is even more present to us now than he was before. We will miss you.
Yes, we feel you with us. And yes, we love that you stayed "forever young."In lieu of sending flowers, feel free to do something extra kind or fun for someone today and make them smile really big.
