Charles "Cj" Manuel Jr.

Charles “CJ” Manuel, Jr., 32, of Lake Charles passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, in Lake Charles.

CJ was born on December 13, 1988, in Lake Charles where he currently resided.  He was a deputy for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office for nearly 10 years.  CJ was currently the manager of the tire and battery department for Sam’s Club. 

His passions in life were his motorcycles and gaming.  His greatest passion was his furry companions, L.J., Shelby, Dexyn, and Rowdy. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lauren Cowick Manuel of Lake Charles; his parents, Cyndy and Charles Manuel, Sr. of Moss Bluff and Charlene Martin of Georgia; siblings, Candace Sizemore (William) of Fort Polk, Chase Martin of Port Arthur, TX, Sydney Manuel of Lake Charles, Haley Young (Blaine) of Sulphur, Summer Rice (Eric) of Lake Charles, and Kaitlyn Tobin of Sulphur; paternal grandmother, Barbara Theriot of Longville; maternal grandfather, Norman Bradley of Reeves; father in law, Glen Cowick (Karena) of Hollister, CA; mother in law, Peggy Cowick of Anderson, SC; grandparents in law, Don and Sarah Cowick of Sulphur; and seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Lawrence Manuel; maternal grandmother, Bonnie Bradley; and an aunt, Christine Crochet.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at University Baptist Church. The Rev. Marcus Wade will officiate.  Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Visitation will begin on Tuesday in the church from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
