Charles Wayne “Charlie” Courtney, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in a local hospice facility.
Born on December 11, 1939, in Lake Charles, he was raised and spent most of his life in Westlake. He was a graduate of Westlake High School and went on to attend McNeese State University.
Charlie began his career at the Conoco Refinery and later became a Pipefitter with Local 106.
Before retiring, Charlie and Virginia, embraced their love of travel, by exploring the United States in their motor home. Eventually, they settled in Winnfield, Louisiana, where they built a home on Saline Lake. It was here that Charlie and Virginia became part of the community and built lifelong friendships.
Charlie was a very active and devoted member of Couley Methodist Church in Winnfield, where his faith and servant’s heart were evident to all who knew him.
An avid fisherman and hunter, he found great joy in the outdoors. Above all, he was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Virginia Courtney; two daughters, Dani Courtney East (Pat) and Kristy Rosteet (Robbie); grandchildren, Virginia Shontel Edwards and Morgan Rosteet (Jackson Conner); great grandchildren, Taylor Holden, and Dailyn and Tyler Simmons; great great grandchildren, Everleigh and Hazleigh Holden; brother, Thomas Arthur Courtney Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and Thomas Arthur (Sam) Courtney Sr. and son, Thomas Wayne Courtney.
Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. A memorial service and inurnment will be held at Couley Methodist Church in Winnfield, Louisiana, at a later date.
