Charles Edward Manuel

December 23, 1958 — June 16, 2026

LeBleu Settlement

Charles Edward Manuel, born on December 23, 1958, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, musician, gardener, proud member of the Ironworkers Local 678, friend, and man of faith. Charles lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and a deep, unwavering love for others. His presence brought comfort, joy, and encouragement to all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Charles never met a stranger. He had a gift for making people feel welcome, whether through conversation, a joke, a song, or a simple act of kindness. Those who knew him will remember his warm smile, engaging stories, sense of humor, and the joy he brought wherever he went. Charles never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Music was one of Charles's greatest passions. In addition to sharing his love of music through singing and recording, he also served as a DJ for KELB Radio, where his voice and personality reached listeners throughout the community. Whether behind a microphone, singing a song, or sharing a story, Charles had a special gift for connecting with people and bringing joy to those around him.

A devoted fan of Iowa Yellow Jacket football, Charles rarely missed an opportunity to support the team he loved. He also had a remarkable green thumb and could grow just about anything. Whether tending a garden, reviving a struggling plant, or sharing with others, he found joy in helping things flourish. His love for his community was equally evident through his more than 20 years of service on the LeBleu Settlement Ward 8 Fire Board, where he faithfully worked to support the volunteer fire department and the families it served.

Charles was a faithful member of Grand Lake Faith Temple. After finding Jesus, Charles dedicated much of his life to serving others. He faithfully served as a hospice chaplain and prison chaplain, offering comfort, prayer, and spiritual guidance during some of life's most difficult moments. He ministered in nursing homes, prayed with strangers, encouraged those who were hurting, and shared the hope that sustained him. He also lovingly officiated countless funerals for individuals and families who had no pastor to turn to, ensuring that no one would be laid to rest without dignity, compassion, and the message of God's love. Even through his own challenges, he remained focused on helping others.

Above all, Charles loved his family. He was a devoted husband and soulmate to Brenda Breaux Manuel and a loving father whose children knew him as a source of unconditional love, encouragement, and acceptance. He is survived by his children: Deidra Manuel (Donald Roberie); Jeremiah Manuel; Zachory Manuel (Jordyn Manuel); Marissa Manuel; Jordan Hebert (Amber Dean); and Justin Hebert (Valerie Boudoin). He also cherished his bonus son, Melvin Manuel (MeeShil Manuel). Charles was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and a beloved great-grandfather to one great-granddaughter. He was a steady presence, a safe place, and a father whose love will continue to shape the lives of those he leaves behind. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cloney Stutes Manuel; his father, Curtis Manuel; his brothers, Curtis Wayne Manuel and Daniel Manuel; and his sister, Bonnie Bruney. Charles leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, service, laughter, music, love, and hard work. While his family will miss him deeply, they find comfort in the countless lives he touched and in the faith that guided him throughout his life. "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord."
