Charles "CW" Wilber Newcomer, Jr.

July 13, 1944 — September 17, 2025

Charles Wilber Newcomer Jr, known by many as “Charlie or “CW,” passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, September 17, 2025, in Sulphur, La., at the age of 81 with his family by his side. Charles was born on July 13, 1944, in DeRidder, La. He was the son of WWII Veteran, Charles Wilber Newcomer, Sr. and Sarah Carlisle Newcomer.

Charles spent most of his years of youth in Lake Charles, La., working at his grandfather’s gas station, Philips 66, on Broad Street. He learned what hard work meant to support the ones you love. He attended Lagrange High, as well as McNeese State University with an ambition to be a dentist but later decided to focus his career on being an electrician. Charles met his wife, Jackie Montelaro of Eunice, when he was attending McNeese. He also served in the National Guard during this time. After Charles and Jackie were married, he began working for Citgo Petroleum Corporation, until retirement after 40 years of working as an electrician.

Charles loved music, played the clarinet in high school, played football in high school and college, and loved his family. Football was his favorite sport to watch. Charles began raising pigs for many years to sell for 4-H projects in Louisiana. In his later years, he would often judge pig shows. He spent many hours working hard at Citgo to provide for his family. He often coached for his son, Todd’s baseball teams at Frasch Park.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jackie Montelaro Newcomer; two children, Todd Christopher Newcomer of Sulphur and Candiace Newcomer Fontenot and her husband James Reynold Fontenot II of Sulphur; two grandchildren, Taylor James Fontenot and James Reynold Fontenot III both of Sulphur; one sister, Sharon Newcomer Semmes and her husband Charles Semmes of Deer Park, TX; one nephew, Scott Semmes and his wife Beverlea; one niece, Kristen Semmes Litchfield and her husband Chris; five great nieces and nephews, Madeleine Semmes, Noah Semmes, Genevieve Semmes, Atlas Semmes, and Mason Litchfield.

Charles is preceded in death by his mother and father as well as his two brothers Shelby Wayne Newcomer and Glen Howard Newcomer.

The family would like to thank all those that took special care of Charles at Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, the ICU and Heart of Hospice. A special thanks to Canon Meney of St. Francis De Sales Oratory Sulphur and Paula Raley for their blessings, prayers, and visits to Charles.
