Charles Timothy “Tim” Porch, 61, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, with his beloved wife, Sheila, by his side. Born on October 31, 1963, in Jackson, Mississippi, Tim lived a vibrant and faith-filled life that left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Tim’s pride and joy and the focus of his life and love was his wife, 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Affectionately known as Papa Tim and Sheila’s Superman, Tim was everyone’s hero. With his big smile, big heart, and ability to make friends wherever he went, Tim never met a stranger and was always eager to lend a helping hand, share a good time, or serve others with his whole heart.
Tim was raised with a strong foundation of faith, learning early on from his parents the importance of living a life of service and love. Whether it was helping at the men's pancake breakfast, playing keyboard and singing in the church praise band, or mentoring young people through youth ministry, Tim served joyfully and faithfully.
Tim earned a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering from American Technical Institute, leading to a successful 40+ years career in the nuclear utility industry. He was initially employed with Entergy Nuclear Operations as a nuclear operator and later worked in the Training, Engineering, Work Management and Project Management departments at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant in Mississippi and the River Bend Nuclear Plant in Louisiana. He earned an SRO Management Certification at both facilities. One of his proudest achievements was earning his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification—an accomplishment that reflected his leadership and dedication to excellence.
Tim’s life changed forever when he met the love of his life, Sheila Woodard, in the early 2000s. The two met through work, instantly became friends and later inseparable. On July 5, 2005, they married, beginning a 20-year journey of love and laughter. Sheila found her “Superman,” and Tim found the partner he had always dreamed of.
Together, Tim and Sheila were active participants in the Mardi Gras community. They were longtime members of the Krewe Mystique de la Capitale in Baton Rouge and joined Krewe du Lac when they moved to Lake Charles. In addition, Tim was also a member of the Pete Fountain Walking Krewe in New Orleans. His proudest moment came in 2020 when he was honored as King XLIV of Krewe Mystique de la Capitale, made even more special because his granddaughter served as Queen with him that year.
Above all, Tim’s greatest joy in life was his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. He lit up when talking about his children and cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Sheila Woodard Porch; his mother, Virginia Porch; his children, Alisha Bennett (Waylan), Kari McGuire (Kane), and Stephen Burd
(Angela); and his beloved grandchildren: Madison Bennett, Parker Bennett, Preston Bennett, Phillip Bennett, Colin McGuire, Owen McGuire, and Noah Burd. He is also survived by his sister, Gail Tucker (Tim), along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Jimmy Porch, and his father-in-law, Carmon Woodard.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until the time of the service. Pallbearers will be Stephen Burd, Waylan Bennett, Kane McGuire, Tim Tucker, Dennis Woodard, Parker Bennett, Preston Bennett, Phillip Bennett, Colin McGuire, Owen McGuire and Noah Burd.
Tim was a steadfast presence at work, at church, and most importantly at home. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unwavering faith. He will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
