In loving memory of Charlie Mae Brasseaux, born in Grand Chenier on May 22, 1932, left this world and entered the gates of heaven at the age of 91 on August 19, 2023, surrounded by family. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. She was a wonderful wife, mom, grandmother, and sister. She loved everyone unconditionally and the smile on her face as her family would enter the room always showed her pure love for her family. Everyone who knew her could always count on her to have a pot of coffee made and a good hot meal for all to enjoy. She loved to have a pot on the stove to cook for as many people as possible.
If there was no food cooked, she would say, oh sit down and let me cook something for you.” She will always be remembered for her perfect roast, rice, & rusty gravy, her delicious cakes, and homemade sweet dough custard pies. The community of Grand Chenier never went hungry nor ran out of gasoline, because she and her husband, Dallas, were the owners of Brasso’s Restaurant and gas station. She enjoyed cooking plate lunches and hamburgers to serve for lunch. She took great pleasure in playing bingo every Saturday night after church and would bring the grandkids along with her. A day spent at the casino was one of her favorite hobbies. You could also find her working in the garden, playing cards and Pokeno with friends, working at the service station and cooking at her restaurant. After a rain, you could bet she would be riding up and down those Grand Chenier roads looking for turtles. She loved to laugh, dance, and enjoy her life to the fullest.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Grand Chenier, a member of the Ladies Altar Society, and the Grand Chenier Home Demonstration Club.
