Charlie LaCasse, 88, of Lake Charles passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 in a local healthcare facility.
Mr. LaCasse was born and raised in Iota, LA and was a graduate of Iota High School. He served in the Merchant Marines aboard the USS Wahoo Swamp. He retired from the Oil Field Industry as a Senior Completion Engineer (at one time he was one of only three in the United States) with thirty-five years of service with Dresser Atlas. He also worked twenty of his "golden years" as a driver for Enterprise Rent A Car. Mr. LaCasse always enjoyed working odd jobs and working to help others.
During his younger years, he enjoyed gardening, bowling; with a family league, the 55 Club and the Knights of Columbus, camping and dancing. He also spent lots of good times playing cards and setting up and playing Bingo. Mr. LaCasse was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where he served many years opening the church and as an usher. He was a member of the 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion, AARP and the Yambalee Camping Club.
He will be most remembered for his love and devotion to his family.
He leaves to honor his memory his loving wife of thirty years, Joyce Guidroz LaCasse; four daughters, Linda Ann Brocato, Patricia Ann Blessington and husband Howard, Brenda Gail Landon and husband Randy and Debra Marie LaCasse; two sons, Billy Wayne LaCasse and wife Penny and Thomas Ernest LaCasse and wife Mary; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three step-children, Elaine Foux and husband Bill, Ronald Guidroz and wife Mary and Diana Ortego; seven step-grandchildren; fifteen step-great grandchildren; one sister, Delores Potier and husband Ben and two sisters-in-law, Lucy LaCasse and Luna LaCasse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Azelia Courville LaCasse; two brothers, Henry "Blanc" LaCasse and Harry LaCasse; his wife, Thelma Abshire LaCasse and an infant son.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 AM Monday, December 14, 2015 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Interment will follow in Abshire Cemetery in Crowley, LA. Visitation Sunday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Cursillo rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM in the funeral home.
