Cherie Jean Schnell

July 20, 1946 — September 23, 2021

Cherie Jean Schnell, 75, of Sulphur, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021, in a Lake Charles hospital. 

Cherie was born in Lake Charles and moved to Texas where she worked in the Clerk of Courts office. After returning to Louisiana, she became one of the first woman operators in the local refineries. Cherie was a woman of strength and determination; she returned to college and earned her certification as a CAD Draftsman.  Cherie always gave and never expected anything in return. She will be remembered for her generous and loving nature, and her strong faith in our Lord.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Pamela Fontenot of Sulphur; grandchildren, Kirk “Pork Chop” Fontenot, and Maegan Fontenot both of Sulphur; great granddaughter, Baylee Fontenot; great grandsons, Bentley, Bladen, and David; sister, Deborah DeLoach; nephews and nieces, Kenny Rauche, Tammy Pressley, Christy DeLoach, Kelly DeLoach and Harold DeLoach, Jr, (Kim); and many great nieces and nephews.  She will also be greatly missed by her beloved cats, Sammy, “Itty Bit”, Pinkie, and Simon.

Cherie was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Lee Schnell; son, James Michael McNiel; sister, Freida Garrison; and her parents, AnnaBelle and Joseph Schlicher.

Funeral Services will be held at 10am, Monday, September 27, 2021, at Johnson & Robison Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss.  Pastor Steve Stark will officiate.  Visitation will be held Monday, 8:30am -10am, with a recitation of the Rosary at 9:30am.
