Cheryl Ann Reed Fuselier passed away peacefully on Saturday November 7th, 2026 at the age of 79. She lived a full and wonderful life.
Cheryl was born on February 3, 1947, in Oakdale, Louisiana, to Wilson and Hazel Young Reed. Cheryl grew up in Lake Charles after her family moved here when she was five years old. She attended St. Margaret Catholic School from Kindergarten through 7th grade, as 8th grade had not yet been added. She finished her 8th grade year at Immaculate Conception School and graduated from St. Charles Academy in 1965. Cheryl was also honored as a St. Margaret Catholic School distinguished alumna in 2018.
Cheryl married Conrad Julius Fuselier on November 30th, 1968. The two first met at a wedding, where Cheryl was the maid of honor and Conrad was the best man. Conrad told Cheryl he'd like to take her out but then added that he already had a date that night. Not one to be outdone, Cheryl quickly replied, "I do too!" Fortunately for all of us, neither of those dates worked out. Little did they know that their chance meeting would be the beginning of a beautiful life together.
After graduating from McNeese State University with a Bachelor of Science in 1972, Cheryl began a teaching career that lasted 33 years. She continued with her own education by earning a Master of Education degree and a Plus 30 in Administration and Supervision.
Cheryl taught at Pearl Watson Elementary, Lake Charles High, and spent the majority of her teaching career at Lake Charles Boston. She loved her students and served as a sponsor and coach for multiple clubs and organizations, including cheer, basketball, volleyball, cross country, track & field, Speech Team, National Honor Society, and Key Club. She also served as senior class sponsor planning Honors Day, the Baccalaureate Service and Graduation.
Cheryl valued her profession and was an active member of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority for women educators. She held various offices, including Chapter President, State President and Gulf Regional Chaplain. She made lifelong friends at every regional and national conference she attended.
Cheryl was a proud alumna of McNeese State University. She was a charter member of the McNeese Mavericks before joining the McNeese Alumni Board of Directors, where she served as Treasurer, President-Elect, and President from 2011 to 2012. She loved attending the Alumni Crawfish boil and she never missed the McNeese Alumni Association Past President Social.
A devoted Catholic, she lived her faith not only through prayer and worship but also through her generous service to others. She was a parishioner of St. Margaret Catholic Church for 40 years where she served as Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council member, and St. Margaret School Board member.
At Christ the King Catholic Church, she served as a Lay Minister of Communion and Co-President of the Ladies Altar Society. She especially enjoyed playing board games with fellow Altar Society members. Along with other parishioners she mentored and prayed for first communion and confirmation students over the last several years.
She was always so proud of her four grandchildren, Emma, Jordan, Ash, and Ava, and their accomplishments. She was fortunate to see them all graduate from high school and see her two oldest graduate from college. We know she'll still be watching when the last two finish college.
She spent many evenings in the bleachers for their basketball and volleyball games, cheering at swim meets, and following collegiate handball tournaments online. She gladly ate cafeteria school lunches at Grandparents Day year after year.
Cheryl was devoted to her family, her friends, her students, and her church. She didn't just make friends, she kept them for life. Twenty-one years after retiring from teaching she still hosted Christmas gumbo at her home with some of her very first National Honor Society students. She had regular lunch dates with St. Charles Academy classmates, Red Hat Society girlfriends, her Eunice & Basile first cousins, and her husband Conrad's Marion High School group.
Cheryl and her husband, Conrad, were blessed to enjoy each other's company after retirement these last twenty-two years. They've traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. They've enjoyed hot air balloon rides, bus trips with friends, their annual Good Friday tour of churches in New Orleans, and they especially enjoyed trips with their church groups to Europe. Cheryl toured the Holy Land and loves to tell people that she had been blessed by three popes: St. John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis. She claims to have been wearing the same pair of shoes for each of these blessings, and a friend declared them her holy soles.
Cheryl is survived by her husband of 57 years, Conrad Fuselier; sons Joel Fuselier and his wife, Tenia, and Neil Fuselier and his wife, Haydee; three granddaughters, Emma, Jordan, and Ava Fuselier; one grandson, Ashley "Ash" Fuselier; her brother, Paul Reed, and his wife, Paula; her brother-in-law, Rohelier Fuselier, and his wife, Rena; her sister-in-law Mona Fuselier, and her nieces and nephews, Stephen Fuselier, Marie-Lauren Reed, Emily Reed, John Reed, Kelly Fuselier, Johnny Fuselier, and Denny Fuselier.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Hazel Reed, and her grandparents, Josien and Iseura Young and Edwin and Velia Reed.
