Christopher Jay Hidalgo, 62, of Westlake passed away at 5:26 PM on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at his residence of natural causes.
Mr. Hidalgo was born on September 4, 1962 in Edwards, CA and was raised in Lake Charles where he was a graduate of Barbe High School. He moved to Westlake in his adult life. He was a retiree of the Louisiana Department of Transportation, where he served diligently as a foreman for many years.
A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Mr. Hidalgo found peace in fishing and camping, always happiest with a rod in hand or around a campfire with loved ones. He had a passion for football and car racing and was a die-hard fan of the New Orleans Saints-faithfully cheering them on through every high and low, including having attended their very first playoff game. He also loved watching the Houston Astros and never missed a game when he could help it.
Though he may have come across as tough or blunt at times, those closest to him knew the truth-his heart was deeply devoted to his family, and his loyalty and love ran deep.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Daron Hidalgo and Jeremy Cionek (Hope); siblings, Penny Young (Denny), Dane Hidalgo (Stephanie), and Troy Hidalgo (Sonya); the mother of his children, Missi Trahan (Wesley); and fourteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life and soul mate, Robin Hidalgo and his parents, Joseph and Mary Hidalgo.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 23, 2025 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Earl Stanley will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the start of the service.
