Christopher "Brett" Hinton, 43, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away at his home on September 15, 2026.
Brett was born March 16, 1983, in Lake Charles. He was a 2001 graduate of Barbe High School and went on to attend Louisiana State University, where he earned a degree in Construction Management in 2010.
An avid outdoorsman, Brett loved hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed time spent on the water. Fishing was more than a pastime for him, and his skill showed at an early age. At 16, Brett won the adult division of the State Coastal Conservation Association Tournament with a 10-pound speckled trout. He also loved his dog, Snoop, who was a special part of his life.
Brett never met a stranger. His wry sense of humor and easy-going nature made him enjoyable to be around, and those qualities will be remembered fondly by the family and friends who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Michelle Mahfouz Fugatt and her husband, Rayburn, and Scott Hinton and his wife, Jodi; his sisters, Holly Buteau and her husband, Thomas, and Katie Fugatt; his brother, Cameron Fugatt; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. James and Cleary Hinton and Willard S. Mahfouz; and his godfather, Michael Mahfouz.
A Memorial Gathering and Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 23, 2006 in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00 until the start of the service. Brett will be laid to rest in Prospect Cemetery in Ansley, Louisiana at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be considered to Habitat for Humanity or the Coastal Conservation Association in Brett's memory.
