Bell City – Clarence N. Theriot, born October 17, 1926, son of Dennis and Alzena (Derouen) Theriot, passed away in a local hospital, Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the age of 95.
Clarence graduated from Bell City High School, McNeese Junior College and Southwestern Louisiana Institute. He was a teacher, coach, and principal at Hayes Elementary and Bell City High School for 25 years. After retiring from education, Clarence worked for Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department for 20 years. In addition to loving his extended family, he loved telling stories to anyone who would listen. The highlight of his retirement years was watching as many athletic events at Bell City High School as he could attend. He was extremely proud and supportive of all Bell City High School academics and athletics.
He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic church in Bell City and Our Lady Queen of Heaven in Lake Charles. He was a faithful member of Bell City Council # 3048 Knights of Columbus and a member of Msgr. Cramer. He and his wife spent the last 3 years at Villa Maria Retirement Home where he loved visiting and playing bingo. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Villa Maria for their loving care and support as well as Christus St. Patrick Hospital ER and Hospice Care.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 73 years, Barbara Gahn Theriot; 3 daughters, Kathy (John) Hicks, Margo (Glenn) Hoffpauir, and Beth (Bill) Compton; sister, Ida Myrle Aucoin; sister-in-law, Emma Lou Theriot; 9 grandchildren, Laura Waller, Erin Hudson, Stephanie (Steven) Slagle, TJ (Laura) Hoffpauir, Katy (Rhea) Shields, Amy (Brian) Treme, Sara Compton, Jessica (Jeff) Aguillard, Roby (Shellie) Compton; 20 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Dennis Theriot, Jr.; Sidney Theriot; Herman Theriot; Raymond Aucoin (brother-in- law); and Rheagan Shields (great granddaughter).
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 11 a.m. in St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bell City, Rev. John Payne, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Lorrain Derouen Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation begins Monday in the church from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Pall bearers will be Paul Gahn, Rhea Shields, TJ Hoffpauir, Brian Treme, Don Aucoin, Roby Compton, Jeff Aguillard, and Phil Aucoin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bell City High School, or a charity of your choice.
