Clayton Ray Darbone, Sr.

Clayton Ray Darbone, Sr., 78, of Sulphur, LA passed away December 11, 2025, in the comfort of his home.

Mr. Darbone was born in Lake Charles January 23, 1947, to Jesse and Oza Menard Darbonne. He studied at LaGrange Senior High School and LSU where he attained license certifications. He enlisted in the Army National Guard where he was a Medic Specialist. He worked his younger year for a few years with the Sulphur Police Department until he trained with the Sulphur Fire Department where he worked thirteen years and achieved the rank of Captain. Mr. Darbone then began working as a journeyman electrician in Industrial Construction until his retirement. A man of faith, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for forty years where he served as a door greater, usher collector. Following the storms of 2020 he became a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor. Mr. Darbone was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing, camping, and cooking outdoors for family and friends. His specialty was Barbeque, anytime he wanted to fire up the pit and even bought a pontoon boat so that he could take it out for Barbequed on the water. His downtime was often spent watching football, cheering on the Saints, or playing on his tractor. He also enjoyed the challenge of tinkering with TV’s and electronics to see if he could get them going again.

He leaves to honor his memory, his wife of fifty-six years, Lois Mere Darbone of Sulphur; two sons, Clayton Ray Darbone, Jr. (Daffaney) of North Sulphur and Kevin Darbone of Sulphur; two grandchildren, Dustin Blake Darbone of Moss Bluff and Debra Darbone Burchfield (Austin) of Longville; three great grandchildren, Payton Bellon, Karsyn Burchfield and Rylee Burchfield, all of Longville; one brother, Dalton Darbonne of Sulphur; one sister, Nora Lamprise of Lake Charles; two sisters-in-law, Doris Mere Voussine (Joe) of Sulphur and Kathy Mere Leger of Westlake.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lloyd Bonsell and sister, Mary-Lou Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Monday, December 15, 2025 at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur. Father Hunter LaRocca will officiate. Interment services with military honors will follow in at Prien Memorial Park. His family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary service at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue Monday from 12:00 PM until the time of service in the funeral home.
