Iowa – Clement Ray Fontenot, born December 18, 1942, son of the late Tanzy and Rose Fontenot, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the age of eighty-two.
Ray graduated from Oberlin High School and worked for LA DOTD for over 36 years. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. Ray enjoyed welding, rice threshing, garage sales, restoring old tractors, and loved John Deere tractors.
Left to cherish his wonderful memory are his wife of sixty-two years, Emily Fontenot; children, Anna Schroll, Clement Ray Fontenot, II (Loretta), Lisa Fontenot, Dawn Sullivan (Ricky), Joan Fontenot; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Sophie Alexandra Bertrand; brothers, John Fontenot, Roger Lee Fontenot; sister, Darcy Jemison.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Raphael Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 10 a.m. Rev. Anthony Fontenot, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin Monday in the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary at 6 p.m., and will resume Tuesday in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
