Cora Lee (Miller) Johnston-Moon

Cora Lee (Miller) Johnston-Moon, 87, of Lake Charles, LA died at 11:10 PM on Friday, November 9, 2018 in her residence.

Mrs. Cora Lee was born July 7, 1931 in Metairie, LA and raised in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of LaGrange Senior High School and McNeese State University, where she majored in music and was recognized as the first 4-year graduating class. She loved playing the piano and was a private piano teacher in the Lake Area and at Our Lady Queen of Heaven. She was an active member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the ECW, Episcopal Church Women. She loved to cook and garden and always had a generous spirit. She will be remembered for her caring and her kindness toward everyone. Mrs. Cora Lee also enjoyed her frequent breakfast visits to Big Daddy’s, where she was always making new friends.

Mrs. Cora Lee is survived by her husband, Cornelius Moon; daughter, Cecily Barnes and husband Willie Williams of Honolulu, HI; step-children, Glen Johnston of Portugal, Andrea Johnston of Dallas, TX, Anna Naquin of Lake Charles, LA and Matthew Moon of South Bend, IN; brother’s wives, Rita Miller and Edna Mae Miller; two grandchildren, Shelley Schweitzer of Honolulu and Mercede Barnes of Houston, TX; five great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; and a host of friends and church family.

She was preceded in death by her previous husband of nineteen years, Roy Johnston; parents, Myrtle and Earle Miller, Sr.; and brothers, Earle Miller, Jr., Jack Miller, and Charlie Miller.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at St. Michael and All Angel Episcopal Church. The Very Reverend Seth Donald will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 AM until the start of the service. A reception will follow the burial at the church hall.
