November 3, 1929 — December 2, 2016

Retired Command Sergeant Major Curley Louis Faulk, age 87, of Lake Charles, La.  passed away on Friday December 2, 2016 in the comfort of his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Kaplan, La on November 3, 1929.

Mr. Faulk honorably and faithfully served 30 years in the United States military in both the Navy and Army; retiring as a United States Army Command Sergeant Major. His military service spanned World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, where he earned numerous distinguished medals. After his final service term in Vietnam, Mr. Faulk returned to Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas where he was appointed by President Lyondon B. Johnson as the senior enlisted military person for the Presidential flight detachment. After this effort concluded, he and his family returned to Germany, where under the leadership of Major General Donald Bennett, he supported our country at 7th Corp Headquarters. Curley served as Honorary Command Sergeant Major of the 7th Infantry Regiment Association (Cottonbalers) and was active in the Society of the 3rd Infantry Division of the United States Army until his death. He also remained an active member in the Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion.

After his military service he served the State of Louisiana in law enforcement with the Louisiana State Capital Police as a body guard to the Governor and with the Louisiana State University Police. He retired from the State of Louisiana with over 15 years of service.

He became a member of the Knights of Columbus in April of 1957 and for 59 years remained active at all levels.  He received his 4th Degree in 1977.  He was a Past Grand Knight with three councils - Baton Rouge, La., Gonzales, La. and Jennings, La. He also served in other key leadership roles over the years including District Deputy, Our Lady of Perpetual Help of Christians, State Conferring Officer, Council Advocate, Financial Secretary and Faithful Navigator. He was selected as Sir Knight of the Year, 4th Degree Knight of the Year for Louisiana and served on the First Degree team from 1985 to present. He also served as a State Officer and Conferring Officer on the Major Degree Team since 1999.

Mr. Faulk was preceded in death by his father, Edmond Faulk of Abbeville, and his mother, Hilda Meaux of Gueydan; his first wife of fifty years, Francis Bouley Faulk and two sons, Ronald Wayne Faulk and Raymond Lester Faulk.

Mr. Faulk leaves to honor his memory, his wife, Carol Ann Couch Faulk, three sons, Curley Lewis Faulk and wife, Ruth of Cartersville, GA, Edmond Michael Faulk and wife, Sandra of Titusville, Fl, Mitchell Earl Faulk and wife, Doris of Eagan, LA, stepson, Mark Steven Couch and wife, Susan, two stepdaughters, Jamie L. Boudreaux and husband, Brett and Teresa Bourgeois and husband Leo all of Lake Charles; sister, Lou Ella Faulk Ardoin of Kinder and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He epitomized an optimistic person and faced life challenges as he did in the military.  This is best understood by paraphrasing a military saying, “This is not a hardship or a problem, this is another opportunity to excel.” His life was dedicated to the service of others, his Church and his Family.

Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Monday December 5, 2106 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM with the Knights of Columbus Honors. Visitation continues on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Home, with full military honors to be rendered at 10:15 AM at the funeral home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at St. Martin de Pores Catholic Church at 11:00 AM with Monsignor Jace Eskind serving as celebrant. Interment will be at a later date.
