Cynthia Ann Rabby Bettinger

Cynthia Ann Rabby Bettinger, 82, of Lake Charles passed away at 10:10 PM on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in her residence surrounded by family.

 

Mrs. Bettinger was born on April 7, 1936 in Mobile, Alabama to James William “Willie” and Edith Rabby. The Rabby family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where Cynthia grew up. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin having earned a degree in Accounting. She and Charles moved to Monroe, Louisiana in 1969. She taught Accounting at Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM) where she also earned her MBA. She eventually earned her PhD in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University in 1982.

 

Cynthia and Charles moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1984. She taught Accounting at McNeese State University until her retirement. She was an avid Bridge player and earned the title of Life Master and also enjoyed playing Mahjong with a group of ladies. She also took pleasure in playing golf, and once made a hole-in-one on the seventh hole at Mallard Cove Golf Course. She served as an Elder and Secretary Treasurer at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

 

She leaves behind, her husband of 57 years, Charles O. Bettinger, III “Charlie;” two daughters, Jerilyn Colvard (Robert) and Carlyn Rider (Scott); eleven grandchildren, Eric Colvard, Ginger Williams, Randy Lee, Kelly Walter, Miranda Craft, Brandon Lee, Katrina Digby, Cecilia Bergstedt, Austin Lee, Layton Bergstedt, and Everett Bergstedt; three bonus grandchildren, Tabitha, Lance, and Tana Rider; seventeen great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marie Rodgers; her son, James Randall Lee; and grandson, Charles Adam Lee.

 

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 10, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Chan Willis will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the start of the service.

 

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to caregiver, Tremaine Mingo as well as the staff of Heart of Hospice for their care and compassion given to Mr. and Mrs. Bettinger.
