Daniel "Danny" James Fontenot, Sr., 58, of Baton Rouge, LA died at 8:15 PM on August 2, 2011 in his residence.
Mr. Fontenot was born November 20, 1952 in Kinder, LA, he was raised and lived in Lake Charles. In 1986 he moved to Baton Rouge until his passing. Danny was a faithful and dedicated servant of Christ; his family and Lord were the loves of his life.
He was a 1970 graduate of LaGrange High School, where he was Salutatorian and was a 1974 graduate of Louisiana State University. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a 2nd Lieutenant. Mr. Fontenot worked for Molina Health Care Services as a computer programmer until the time of his death. He was an avid LSU fan and also in his later years worked for the LSU Athletic Association for the football games. He attended St. George Catholic Church, where he was a Knights of Columbus member and served as a lector for many years. He was also a member of Toastmasters International and the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as the Religious Coordinator. Danny enjoyed listening to a variety of music, from the 60's, 70's, instrumental and Cajun. He was very proud of his Cajun heritage and loved being a Louisianan. He always smiled, had compassion and concern for others and was loved by all. He will be greatly missed!
Mr. Fontenot is survived by his loving wife of thirty-one years, Cathy Savant Fontenot; sons, Daniel James Fontenot, Jr. and Andrew Neal Fontenot, all of Baton Rouge; father, Percy J. Fontenot (Lou); sisters, Priscilla F. Roy (Hubert Roy), Glenda F. Verret (Leroy) and Theresa F. Bourgeois (Benny), all of Lake Charles; Goddaughters, Amanda Bourgeois, Missy Verret, and Alicia Landreneau; sixteen nieces and nephews; fourteen great-nieces and nephews; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, cousins, friends, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Euna Mae J. Fontenot; grandparents, Dius and Octavia Fontenot and Dewey and Edna Johnson; father-in-law, William J. Savant; and nephew, Paul Savant.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
