Daniel Ray Allen

August 27, 1930 — June 13, 2017

Daniel entered this life on August 27, 1930 in Patterson, Idaho. He entered eternal life on June 13, 2017. Brought up on various ranches in Idaho during the Great Depression, Daniel was a true “cowboy” at heart, and embodied the tremendous work ethic, courage, and respect that comes from living in these circumstances.

 

After living alone and putting himself through high school, he joined the Air Force at the age of 19, becoming the CFC gunner on B29s, and flew 60 combat missions during the Korean war. He entered the Catholic Faith under the mentorship of Msgr. Jules Daigle and Msgr. Jerome Staffel. In 1952, he married Dorothy “Dotty” Landry and they were blessed with 5 children.

 

“Dan” retired from PPG Industries after 24 years as a Construction Warehouse Manager, and spent the beginning of his retirement years traveling the country on long vacations with his wife. He enjoyed “fixing” machines and equipment. He was a longtime member of St. Raphael Catholic Church.

 

Dan was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy, his parents, Elmer and Myrtle Allen, a brother, Buck Allen, and a sister, Ruth House.

 

He is survived by his five children: Linda (Gordon) Vest, Sheila Allen, Debbie (Mike) Wilds, Danny (Louise) Allen, and Mike (Anna) Allen. His grandchildren are, Donald (Ashley) Vest, Melissa (John) Abraham, Angela (Chad) Reeves, Sarah (Steve) Rogowski, Emilie Allen, and Margaret Lie. His great grandchildren are, Grace Vest, Chloe Vest, Cecilia Reeves, Mariah Reeves, Emma Reeves, Tommy Rogowski, and Kaitlyn LeDoux. He is also survived by a sister, Carol Hoezleand. his godchild, Johnny Wells, and friends who were family to him: Piero and Lido Caserta and their five children, Maria, Paolo, Annamaria, Luis, and Piero; Albert and Stephanie Lie; and Reverend John Poerio.

 

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday June 17, 2017 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Iowa, LA. The Rev. Dismas Mauk will officiate. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 4 PM until 9 PM, with a rosary to be recited at 6 PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday from 8 AM unitl leaving for the church at 10:00 AM.
