Darrel John "Shorty" Granger

Darrel John "Shorty" Granger, 53, of Lake Charles, LA, died at 2:50 PM on Sunday, March 2, 2014 in a an Alexandria Hospital. Mr. Granger was born September 28, 1960 in Lake Charles, LA, where he was a lifelong resident. He attended Lake Charles High School and worked as a diesel mechanic for most of his life, spending a number of years at Daigle Brothers Construction. He enjoyed fishing and boating and will always be remembered as a very kindhearted individual who always put others first. Mr. Granger is survived by his son, Brandon Prejean of Vinton, LA; mother, Fay Richard of Lake Charles; brothers, Howard Granger and fiancée Dorothy Wilkins and Brian Rhodes and wife Melinda, all of Lake Charles; sisters, Linda Raush and husband Michael of Sulphur and Mary Martin of Lake Charles; granddaughter, Kylee Prejean; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Granger; and brother, Donald Granger. His funeral service will be at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Danny Torres will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service with a rosary at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to help with expenses.
