“Always be prepared to give the reason for the hope that you have.” I Peter 4:15 Darrell was, and this was his favorite verse.
Darrell Monroe Spencer, 61, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 8, 2016, following a brief illness.
Born to Roe and Jessie Louise Ayer Spencer in Lake Charles, Darrell was a 1973 graduate of LaGrange High School and a 1976 graduate of McNeese State University. He received his Master’s Degree from McNeese in 1978. Darrell worked for Thermo Fisher Scientific for twenty-eight years, retiring in 2016 as Operations Director. He loved spending time with his family and riding his motorcycle.
Darrell was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles, where he served as a deacon for many years. For the last year and a half, Darrell also served as Transitional Pastor to First Baptist, a place of service which he accepted and fulfilled with loving dedication and Godly inspiration. Darrell was also the teaching leader for the men’s Bible Study Fellowship class for eleven years.
Darrell Spencer was a Godly man who loved studying God’s word and sharing the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ with others. He had a true gift in translating God’s promises into loving messages of encouragement to others, whether from the pulpit on a Sunday morning, presiding at a wedding or a funeral, or in everyday interaction with others. Paramount in Darrell’s life was his desire to share God’s love for mankind through a saving personal relationship with Jesus.
Those left to cherish his memory are his faithful and beloved wife of forty years, Karen Bray Spencer; his daughter, Kelley Spencer and son, David Spencer, both of New Orleans; and one brother, Neal Spencer and wife Patti of Oklahoma. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Rob Tibbitts will officiate. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until service time.
