David James “Dave” Davis, 66, of Lake Charles, LA, died on Saturday, August 13, 2016 in his residence.
Dave was born May 23, 1950 in Lake Charles where he lived most of his life until moving to Grand Lake eight years ago. He attended Rosteet Elementary School, graduated in 1970 from Lake Charles High School, where he was very active in the band and attended McNeese State University on a band scholarship. He was raised in the Catholic faith and was in the Boy Scouts, achieving the honor of Eagle Scout.
Dave worked for more than 30 years with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development as manager over the real estate department, retiring in 2013. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, believed in the 2nd Amendment and was a member of the NRA. He also enjoyed football and loved the New Orleans Saints and the LSU Tigers.
Dave was a family man and loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He also had a great love for music, playing the piano, keyboard and guitar. He was a member of several bands throughout the years, including Southern Storm, Roy Rockit, Phase Two, and Choctaw.
Dave is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patti Bauer Davis of Grand Lake; children, Elitia Normand and husband Brian of Gonzales, LA; Jeremy Bauer and wife LaRoyia of Jacksonville, FL; and David James Davis II and wife Courtney of Grand Lake; brother, Raymond Charles Davis and wife Mary of Lake Charles; sisters, Virginia “Ginny” Davis Fontenot and husband Gilbert of Moss Bluff, and Linda Ruth Davis Gouldin and husband Gordon of Seabrook, TX; grandchildren, Callie, Brooks, Zoey, and Noah; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Charles Davis Jr. and Ruby Meaux Davis.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the start of the service.
