David Lloyd Dean

November 14, 1945 — July 1, 2023

David Lloyd Dean, 77 of Lake Charles, LA passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

He was born November 14, 1945 to the late Olivia and Leroy Dean Sr. in Lake Charles, LA.

He graduated from W. O. Boston High School, then was drafted into the United States Army to serve in Korea during World War II. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home and began working at Halliburton and later Gulf Coast Aluminum Plant. 

He and Shirley exchanged vows on January 16, 1968 and together welcomed three children. He was a southern gentleman, born and raised, who enjoyed the simpler things in life; faith, family, and good food.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and enjoyed spending time with his family, whether vacationing, crabbing, fishing or cooking. His BBQ chicken wings, ribs, and sausage were favorites among his family and friends. 

He was employed as a deputy with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriffs Office until his retirement in June of 2015 after seventeen years of service. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olivia and Leroy Dean, Sr.; two sons, Kevin Thompson and Brandon Paul “Bub” Dean; grandchildren, Christol Doucett Jr.; a brother, Leroy Dean Jr.; and sister, Joelene Dean. 

Those left to cherish his memory, his wife of fifty-five years, Shirley Dean; children, Karen Reed and David Dwayne Dean; grandchildren, Jasmine (Malcolm Trahan), Brandyn, Amber, Kaila, Emerald, Brianna, Zaree, and Brittany; eight great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorial services led by Reverend Abbie Monroe will be held, Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 12pm in chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, visitation to be held in chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 10am to 12pm.

Family shares a heartfelt thank you to Above and Beyond Home Care and Heart of Hospice for the love and compassion shown while in their care.
