David Blanchard Newell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Blanchard Newell, who left us on January 10, 2026, at the age of 62. Born on August 4, 1963, in Roswell, New Mexico, David spent his life as a beloved figure in the communities he touched, notably in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he made his home. David was known for his warm smile and kind spirit, qualities that endeared him to everyone who knew him. He dedicated much of his professional life to the food industry, where he served as a manager. His work ethic and dedication to creating a positive environment made a lasting impact on those around him. He was a wonderful caregiver to so many throughout his life and his compassion and loved touched so many lives. He also had a deep love for animals and helped so many of them as well. 

David is survived by his partner, Darryl Antrobus, his brother, Mike Newell and wife Angie; his sisters, Charlotte Allured and husband Ross; Madora Sutherland; niece, Dawn Daigle and husband Donald, along with a host of other nieces, nephews and extended family. Each of them will carry fond memories of the laughter and love they shared with David throughout the years, and his absence will be profoundly felt.

David was preceded in death by his parents; S.P. and Eva Jane Newell, as well as two brothers; Paul Newell and Jon Newell. A Gathering of Friends will be held at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St. Lake Charles, LA. 70605, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 4:00pm. This gathering will provide family and friends the opportunity to come together, share stories, and celebrate the life of a remarkable man whose spirit will live on in our hearts.

The family has entrusted cremation arrangements to Johnson Funeral Home.
