Dean McGinnis, 67, of Topsy passed away at 1:55 AM on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in a local hospital. Mr. McGinnis was born on November 11, 1947 in Shelby, NC and lived most of his life in the Lake Charles area. During his younger years he was a boxer and played baseball. Mr. McGinnis proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge from the military he started a family. He was very active in his son's baseball and football activities and coached the youth teams they played on. Mr. McGinnis owned and operated McGinnis Pest Control for many years. He was NOLA Saints biggest fan from the beginning and was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golf. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Karen McGinnis; four sons, Tracy McGinnis (Melissa) of Moss Bluff, Trevor McGinnis (Sara) of Houston, Tryon McGinnis (Monica) of Lake Charles, and Connor Thompson of Moss Bluff; the mother of three of his children, Peggy McGinnis of Lake Charles; two siblings, Eddie McGinnis (Terri) and Frances Tuttle (Lee) all of Westlake; five grandchildren, Devyn, Jackson, Blake, and Sadie McGinnis, and Alexis Williams; and one great grandson, Ayden Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cab and Thelma McGinnis. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Gateway Church of God in Moss Bluff. The Rev. Rocky East will officiate. Burial will be in Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will resume in the church on Friday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
